Italian Film Festival hits Scotland

Oscar contender The First Beautiful Thing leads a stellar line-up.

by Jennie Kermode

If you're a fan of Italian cinema you'll find lots to look forward to in Scotland's cinemas over the next two weeks, as the 18th Italian Film Festival takes the country by storm. With screenings in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, there's lots for audiences to look forward to.

This year's festival includes a special tribute to actor Toni Servillo, who wowed viewers with his performance as Italian prime minister Giulio Andreotti in 2008's Il Divo. This time around he can be seen in thriller A Quiet Life and in One Man Up and The Girl By The Lake, both of which won him Best Actor awards.

Italian Oscar contender The First Beautiful Thing will also feature in the festival alongside hit comedy What A Beautiful Day!, which has been breaking box office records on its native soil. There's also a chance to enjoy Roberto Rossellini's rarely seen classic Generale Della Rovere. The festival opens today and will run until the 14th. We'll be bringing you reviews of some of the highlights here at Eye For Film.
