Skyfall leads resurgence in UK video sales

Entertainment sector is growing for first time in five years.

by Jennie Kermode

Britain's entertainment sector - comprised of films, music and computer games - enjoyed a resurgence of growth last year after five years of decline. It's thanks in large part to the success of Skyfall, which totalled almost three million sales across both physical and digital media. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sold just over two million copies, while Les Misérables and Despicable Me 2 were also a big success.

While digital sales overtook physical ones for the fist time in the games market, film fans remained more than twice as likely to opt for physical media such as DVDs or blu-ray.

These results will help to restore confidence among film investors, with home entertainment sales now vital to most films' ability to recover their costs.
