Action movie icon and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger today received emergency heart surgery in Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. The actor, who is 70 and has suffered from heart problems in the past, is now said to be in stable condition.

The Terminator star was undergoing planned surgery to replace a catheter valve when he suffered complications and further intervention became urgent. The treatment took several hours but the issues were eventually resolved.

Schwarzenegger recently returned to the big screen in his traditional style with Killing Gunther, playing a famous hitman who proves remarkably difficult to get rid of. He is currently scheduled to star in a sequel to his 1988 hit Twins - Triplets will also star Danny DeVito and Eddie Murphy.
