The Farewell favourite at Sundance London

Lula Wang's comedy drama takes audience award

Lula Wang's comedy drama The Farewell has taken home the Audience Favourite Award at Sundance Film Festival's London edition.

The film, which stars Awkwafina, Tzi Ma and Diane Lin, tells the story of a headstrong Chinese-American woman, who returns to China when her gran is given a terminal diagnosis but struggles with her family's decision to keep the old lady in the dark about her illness.

The Farewell, which had its European premiere at the festival will be screened again to the public at London's Picturehouse Central next weekend. More than 40 filmmakers and actors attended the festival and the festival also welcomed its first writer writer-in-residence and poet Be Manzini, who created and shared poetic responses to a selection of films online and through live readings during the festival using the hashtag #FueledBySundance

The festival's 2020 edition in Utah will run from January 23 to February 2. The Farewell will have an LA premiere in the US on June 26
