The Cannes Film Festival plans to hold a media conference in Paris on Wednesday, 3 June, to reveal the 2020 official selection.

The event will be hosted by Pierre Lescure, president of the Festival de Cannes, and Thierry Frémaux, the festival's general delegate.

The journalists and media representatives will gather at the UGC Normandie cinema on the Champs Elysées, scene of many of the Festival’s recent media jamborees. The plans will be divulged live also on Festival’s website and across its social media.

The titles in the Official Selection will be awarded the Cannes stamp of approval upon their release in cinemas and screenings at certain festivals as previously announced.

Meanwhile, some industry professionals will participate in the Marché du Film/Film Market, to be held online from 22 to 26 June.

Frémaux also has announced that the Institut Lumière in Lyon will push ahead with its 11th edition between 10 and 18 October. Frémaux is the Institut’s general director alongside the Institut’s president Bértrand Tavernier. Last year, the festival attracted some 200,000 filmgoers. Although the event’s focus is on restoration and heritage cinema, it has been suggested that some contemporary titles will be shown - and some from the Cannes selection.

The work of the revered writer and director Michel Audiard will screen to celebrate the centenary of his birth in 1920, while son Jacques Audiard and grandson Stéphan will take part in the celebration. Hommage also will be paid to US director Clarence Brown, a key figure from Hollywood's golden age. Further details will be announced shortly including the recipient of the Lumière Award, given previously to Quentin Tarantino, Ken Loach and Jane Fonda among others.

Among the 50 or so titles expected to be announced under the Cannes label are Wes Anderson’s star-packed The French Dispatch, with Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Saoirse Ronan, and Tilda Swinton, Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round and Naomi Kawase’s Comes Morning.
