The winners of the Golden Globes were announced on Twitter last night, in stark contrast to the usually red carpet affair.

Stephen Spielberg's West Side Story scooped three awards, including Best Musical or Comedy Film, matched by Jane Campion's The Power Of The Dog, which was named Best Drama Film.

In the drama category, Nicole Kidman was named Best Actress for her central role in Lucille Ball biopic Being The Ricardos, while Will Smith scooped the Best Actor gong for playing Serena and Venus Williams' father in King Richard. For musicals and comedy, Andrew Garfield and Rachel Zegler took the honours, for tick, tick...Boom! and West Side Story.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association - which vote on the awards - came under fire when it was revealed that none of the 87 members were black. This resulted in changes to the rules and this year's scaled back event.

HFPA President Helen Hoehne said: “We’re going to be outspoken about what we’re learning and challenge others to join us with members from more than 50 countries. We have a unique place in the awards universe.”
